"THE CROW" CROWNED WEEK'S #1 TOP GROSSING FILM AMERICAN
RECORDINGS' GROUP MEDICINE IN THE FILM AND ON THE SOUNDTRACK ALBUM Band's
New EP due in June with Smashing Pumpkins and Cocteau Twins lending a hand
With "The Crow" emerging as the nation's #1 grossing film in its first
weekend in release, American Recordings' band Medicine is garnering its
greatest exposure to date. The smash hit film, which stars the late Brandon
Lee, earned $11.7 million over its opening week, vaulting it to the #1 spot.
Medicine not only contributed the song Time Baby 3 to the film's all
rock soundtrack (which jumps to the #6 position on Billboard's Top 200 Album
chart), but also appears in the film performing the song. A striking video
clip of Time Baby 3 has been getting extensive coverage on its own,
with play on MTV, and "Entertainment Tonight" recently featuring the video in
a piece on the film.
Medicine's upcoming EP, The Sounds of Medicine -- Stripped and Reformed
Sounds, is set for a June 14 release. The EP features new songs and
remixes of previous Medicine tracks, including a funky new version of She
Knows Everything remixed by the Smashing Pumpkins' Billy Corgan, and a
decidedly pop version of Time Baby 3, the classic Medicine song remixed
by Robin Guthrie of the Cocteau Twins and featuring that band's Elizabeth
Fraser on backing vocals.
Comprised of guitarist Brad Laner, singer Beth Thompson, and drummer Jim
Goodall, Medicine has sparked lavish praise and controversy for their
radically unorthodox approach to alternative pop. With their most recent
album, The Buried Life, a Top 20 hit on the CMJ charts, the band has
been touring extensively in anticipation of the release of the new EP.
